Honeysuckle Nursery Counter
A recent project completed for Honeysuckle Nursery in Mosman. An established nursery, which has recently re-opened in Mosman with a brand new store.
The team from Honeysuckle contacted us to build their main POS counter, situated in a prime position in their shop. Their initial design brief was to create a highly durable, unique and well designed counter which married in with the rest of their new store. Being a large industrial space, the main materials used in the construction of the building were steel, concrete and timber. Designing with this in mind, a mix of recycled hardwood, some 140mm wide reclaimed T+G flooring and galvanised mini-orb were used on the exterior of the counter, with the interior shelving and carcass made from marine ply and structural pine.
One issue which we had to keep in mind during the design and build process was the nature of the products which would be put onto the counter on a daily basis. The timber top needed to be build to take the wear and tear of items such as large terracotta pots as well as constantly having water spilt on it. To deal with this, we used a marine ply backing to the T+G flooring as well as applying a waterproof membrane. This meant there was no chance of water making its way into the storage cupboards underneath.
The counter was also built in two parts, mainly due to it’s sheer size, but and also because it created a single point of access once it was positioned against the wall. This was also part of the design brief. A hatch was installed with two hydraulic arms to link the two parts of the counter. Install required some heavy lifting, precise navigation through doorways and a few extra hours on site positioning the counters and adjusting the hydraulic access hatch to suit.
Overall, our team were really happy with the final result – Tom calling it one of his favourite projects we’ve completed. The Honeysuckle Team were great to deal with and we were stoked to be involved with the creation of their fantastic new space – we look forward to popping in for our next plant purchase soon.
